Larry Wayne Ross was born June 3, 1943 in Maryville, Missouri to Eldon Ross and Minnie (Crockett) Ross. Larry passed away Thursday April 7, 2011 at his home in rural Clarinda surrounded by many loved ones after a brief illness. Larry attended school in Maryville and graduated from Maryville High School in 1962.

Larry moved on to Lincoln, Nebraska, where he started his love for working on cars. He specialized in making auto body work an art form. Larry made Clarinda his home in 1971 where his 3 daughters Traci, Nicole and Carrie were raised. Larry spent 40 years actively involved in the community. He was the President of the Jaycees, served many years on the Clarinda School Board, participated on many committees for the CABI; including the Sesquensentenial and RAGBRAI committees. Larry was a very creative and innovative entrepreneur. He owned his own body shop before starting his lettering and sign business in 1977. He proudly named his business for his 3 daughters. TRNICA. TR for Traci, NI for Nicole and CA for Carrie. All 3 girls worked side by side with their Dad as he made his business a success. Larry met his companion in life, Christie, 23 years ago and they were married December 23, 1989 at the First Christian Church in Clarinda. True to his nature, Larry welcomed daughter Kenna and son Brad into his family.

Larry made family his priority. He enjoyed cooking for all of them, planned special occasions, and always manned the ice cream maker. Larry truly loved playing golf and was well known for his beautiful golf swing. Golfing was not something he enjoyed doing alone. Playing with friends and family was what he loved most. Larry was an adventurer at heart; he enjoyed hiking, biking including RAGBRAI and planned and took many vacations. Special to him was a trip to Washington, DC with Christie. Along with Cathy, Christie’s sister, they took Christie’s parents A.J. and Betty to see the WWII memorial. From the time he was a boy, Larry loved the mountains and those closest to him all enjoyed vacations with him there.

Preceding Larry in death, were his parents and father in law A.J. Robertson.

Left to cherish Larry’s memory are his wife, Christie of Clarinda. Daughter, Traci Gilge and husband Dan of Des Moines. Daughter, Nicole Ross of Clarinda. Daughter, Carrie Sunderman and husband Jimmy of Clarinda. Daughter, Kenna Knapp and husband Mitch of Daegu South Korea. Son, Brad Hauber and wife Kara of Grant City, Missouri. He will be greatly missed by his 9 grandchildren, Jessica Hulett, Miranda (Shawn) Hetrick, Ashley Weir, Colton Hulett, Blake Hulett, Jadyn Sunderman, Kayley Ledgerwood, Cooper Gilge, and Jeran Gilge. Also surviving are his brother, Donnie (Louise) Ross, mother-in-law, Betty Robertson, sister-in-law, Cathy (Leland) Cook, other relatives and many, many friends.
