Marion Franklin Burroughs was born February 1, 1937, in Siam, Iowa, Taylor County, to Jesse Wallace Burroughs and Ethel Frances (Elkins) Burroughs. He grew up in the Clarinda area. He attended the Iowa School for the Deaf from 1954-55, graduating from the Clarinda High School with the Class of 1957. After graduation, he went to work for the Clarinda Herald Journal, a position he held for 18 years. He also worked for the Denison Bulletin Review for 2 years and 30 years for the National Farmer's Organization (NFO) in Corning and Ames as a printer. On June 25, 1961, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Calek in Clearmont, Missouri. To this loving union, four boys were born, Marty, Tracy, Bruce and Kelly.
Marion was a member of the Corning United Methodist Church. He had been a Cub Scout Master in Corning, Iowa. He was a member of the Jaycees in Clarinda, Iowa. He also was a member of Boots and Bows square dancing in Corning, Iowa.
Marion enjoyed square dancing with Carolyn, playing cards and country western music. He liked to stay busy working on cars, chores and maintaining his farm. He always put other people's needs ahead of his own, whether it was his own family, or strangers. Marion was very proud of his large family and was very engaged in his kids and grandchildren's lives.
Left to cherish the memory of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend are his loving wife of over 50 years Carolyn Burroughs of Corning; Marty Burroughs and wife Michele of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Tracy Burroughs and wife Michaeleen of Byron, Minnesota; Bruce Burroughs and wife Kitty of Bowling Green, Ohio; and Kelly Burroughs and wife Danielle of Blaine, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Brian, Peter, Regina, Jack, Alricxander, Alaric, and Elise; sisters Geraldine Major of Creston, Iowa; Shirly Thomas of Coin, Iowa; Rose Harms of Shanandoah, Iowa; Leona Clark of Richland, Iowa; Jeanne Williams of Shanandoah, Iowa; and brother Vincent Burroughs of Wellman, Iowa.
Preceding Marion in death are his parents Jesse and Ethel Burroughs, sister Patty Baker, and brother Jesse Burroughs.
