W. Marie Sleep was born December 25, 1920 in Carl, Iowa to Thomas and Grace (Lawrence) Preston. She went to school at country school and graduated high school in Corning, Iowa in 1939.

In 1941 she met her soon to be soul-mate, Ralph Sleep. They were married July 8, 1942 in Lubbock, Texas where he was in WWII. To this union, two daughters were born, Janice Marie and Shirley Ann. They spend most of their lives farming and raising Hereford cattle. Marie always had a huge garden and chicken to dress for the winter meals.

Marie was a homemaker until 1968 when she worked at O'Bryan Bros and then Bedford Nursing Home where she received her CNA license. She also worked as a dish aide until retiring in 1985. Marie was a life time American Legion Auxiliary Member in Bedford, Iowa. The couple moved to Bedford in 1976 after Ralph started to get ill.

Marie was a very kind and caring wife, mother, grandma and great grandma, also becoming a great-great grandma in 2010.

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Ruth Rex, and by brothers Russell Preston, Robert Preston and Glen Preston, also a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Carroll of Bolivar, Missouri: Great grandchildren Jessica and Dylan Stevens of Bethany, Missouri: Jacob Thomsen of Bedford, Iowa: Aaron and Rachel Thomsen of Eagleville, Missouri: and one great-great granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Hiatt of Bethany, Missouri: along with many other relatives and friends.
