Graveside memorial services for Gary Gray, age 57, of Villisca, IA, who died Thursday, August 20, 2009 at Montgomery County Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, Iowa will be held Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the North Grove Cemetery, rural Clarinda, Iowa with Reverend Andrew Rubenking officiating. Burial with military rites by American Legion Ker-A-Vor Post 251 will be in the North Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on our website at, www.ritchiefuneralhome.com under Obituaries. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Clarinda, Iowa.
Gary Lynn Gray was born September 8, 1951 at Clarinda, IA to Arthur Russell Gray and Mary (Robinson) Gray. He had three brothers and one sister. Gary was a graduate of Clarinda High School and attended college for two years. He served his country in the United States Army, from 1972-1979, during the Vietnam War and was also stationed in Germany, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Sharpshooter Badge. On December 31, 1984, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Smith at Security, Colorado. They have four children, Eric, Alan, Jennifer and Kerri.
Gary was a truck driver for Midwest Viking Trucking Company and John Beem Implement. He was a member of the American Legion Ker-A-Vor Post 251. Gary enjoyed tractor pulls, fishing and was active in horse shows when he was young. He had a great interest in Harley's. Most important to Gary was his family and truly enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
Preceding Gary in death were his parents, Art and Mary; brothers, Kyle Gray, Russell Gray; sister, Gail Thurman and nephew, Jason Gray.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Beth Gray of Villisca, IA; sons, Eric Gray of Corning, Iowa and Alan Gray and wife Shelly of Nodaway, Iowa; daughters, Jennifer Montagne and husband Kirk of Glenwood, Iowa and Kerri Pace of Villisca, Iowa; grandchildren, Jessica Pace, Bradley Maxwell, Chelsey Gray, Braden Gray, Payton Gray, Addison Gray, Walker Pace, Payton Montagne, Kenley Montagne; brother, Kevin Grayof Clarinda, Iowa; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Gary will be greatly missed by his friends and family,
but the memories will remain in our hearts forever .
May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn Gary's passing.
